Michael Folorunsho Transfer from Napoli to Atalanta
Michael Folorunsho was on the verge of joining Atalanta in the summer after delivering an impressive season at Hellas Verona. Nevertheless, the transfer did not materialize as Atalanta had to prioritize investing in a forward following Scamacca's injury. His agent, Mario Giuffredi, stated that Atalanta had shown interest in him. He mentioned that there were some mismanaged requests during the summer, which led to plans being reset two months later. Giuffredi also indicated that Napoli's coach, Conte, holds Folorunsho in high regard and does not intend to allow him to leave in January. They plan to reassess the situation in June.
Michael Folorunsho renewed his contract because the coach relied on him. An important proposal came from Atalanta, but the operation was managed poorly without informing the player or the coach initially. However, the situation was resolved, and he will stay at Napoli until June.
Mario Giuffredi, the agent representing Michael Folorunsho, disclosed that Atalanta had made a significant proposal worth 15 million euros for his client. This transfer could have been a substantial financial gain for Napoli, and it would have enabled Folorunsho to earn a higher salary, despite already having a favorable contract with Napoli. However, the deal did not materialize due to an injury to Scamacca, which compelled Atalanta to focus their investment on Retegui instead. Folorunsho was reportedly unaware of these negotiations until he encountered the news online.
Michael Folorunsho was close to leaving Napoli in the last transfer window. Despite an impressive season at Hellas Verona and being called up by Luciano Spalletti for the European Championship with Italy (though he did not play), he was near a move to Atalanta. However, Atalanta shifted their focus to signing a striker after Gianluca Scamacca's injury, which halted the transfer.
Atalanta was close to signing Folorunsho before the Scamacca injury. Negotiations were halted due to Napoli's demand for a 30% future resale percentage. The deal was valued at around 18-20 million euros.
Michael Folorunsho was initially loaned to Hellas Verona last year. After a positive experience, he returned to Napoli with the intention of becoming an important part of Antonio Conte's new project. However, during the summer retreat, a rift developed between him and Conte, leading to him being placed on the market. Atalanta attempted to acquire him but was unsuccessful.
