However, this offer did not meet the expectations of Neluțu Varga, the primary shareholder of CFR Cluj. Varga mentioned that there had been no communication with representatives from Genoa and regarded the rumored bid as a joke, emphasizing that Munteanu's value far exceeded the proposed sum. He set the asking price at 15 million euros along with 20% of any future transfer fee. Should Munteanu be transferred for this amount, he would become the most expensive player to exit the Romanian Superliga, surpassing the existing record held by Dennis Man, who was sold to Parma for 13 million euros.
