Washington Aguerre Transfer from Peñarol to Newell's Old Boys

Washington Aguerre, a standout player for Peñarol in 2024, has attracted significant interest from Argentine football clubs. Ignacio Ruglio, the president of Peñarol, mentioned that Aguerre's agent had received substantial offers from Argentina. Ruglio noted that the contract they offered was enormous, doubling the salary for three years with a release clause every December. The offers from Argentina were described as astronomical, and Ruglio advised Aguerre's agent to ensure the deal was secured. Ruglio acknowledged that Peñarol could not match these offers and was prepared to find a replacement if Aguerre accepted an Argentine offer.

Newell's has made an offer for Washington Aguerre and is waiting for the outcome of the negotiation between the goalkeeper and Peñarol. Aguerre was absent from the start of the preseason since his contract had expired, and he did not accept Peñarol's offer to double his salary and extend the contract for three years. Newell's is in a strong position to acquire him, having made a salary proposal and a purchase offer for a percentage of the player that is close to what they want. Aguerre's representative, Rafael Monge, indicated that their goal is for Peñarol to make an economic effort to retain part of Aguerre's rights, but noted that Newell's is well-positioned in the negotiation with their competitive offer.
