Manchester City showed interest in acquiring Warren Zaire-Emery during the January transfer window. The club was keen to finalize a deal for the French international but eventually withdrew from negotiations after being quoted a €100 million fee. Guardiola reportedly wanted to bring in a new central midfielder to the club due to Rodri’s injury layoff, and the club attempted to sign Zaire-Emery before eventually opting for Gonzalez. The 18-year-old Zaire-Emery, who has over four years left on his contract with PSG, was considered the preferred midfield target for City during the winter window. Although his Estimated Transfer Value was €65.6m, PSG's asking price was considerably higher, leading City to discontinue their pursuit. Zaire-Emery has made 103 senior appearances for PSG, scoring eight goals and winning five trophies. Meanwhile, City successfully secured a deal for Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez for €60m on Transfer Deadline Day.
