Tom Rothe Transfer from FC Union Berlin to Borussia Dortmund
Tom Rothe has addressed rumors of a potential return to Borussia Dortmund, noting that the decision rests with the club itself. He indicated that his focus remains on delivering strong performances at Union Berlin. Borussia Dortmund retains both a buy-back option and a matching right for the left-back. Rothe conveyed that Borussia Dortmund's management did not wish for his departure and attempted to keep him through various discussions. Nonetheless, a favorable arrangement was reached for him to move to Union Berlin, where he feels he has greater opportunities for consistent play and development.
Tom Rothe may have the opportunity to return to Borussia Dortmund, as the club can activate a buy-back clause starting from 2026, rather than after the current season. The price for the buy-back is contingent on Rothe's playing time at Union Berlin, with a range between 12 and 18 million Euros, according to reports from 'Sport Bild'. Initially, the price was approximately estimated at 10 million Euros. Additionally, Dortmund holds a matching right clause, which requires Union Berlin to notify Dortmund if a third club makes an offer, allowing Dortmund to match it. The fixed buy-back fee would be applicable from 2026.
