Thibaud Verlinden leaving Beerschot-Wilrijk?
Thibaud Verlinden's transfer to OHL was made official, causing quite a stir. Wesley Sonck revealed that there was a clause in Verlinden's contract allowing him to leave for a certain amount. Gyorgy Csepregi, now the sporting director at OHL and former agent of Verlinden, was aware of this clause. Beerschot decided to proceed with negotiations, suspecting that the club needs money and considering the potential drop in the clause value if they were relegated.
Thibaud Verlinden seems to be on his way out of Beerschot. Dirk Kuyt, the Beerschot trainer, expressed his dissatisfaction with the club management for not informing him in time about Verlinden's potential transfer. Kuyt was only informed minutes before a team meeting that Verlinden could not be included in the lineup, indicating a possible transfer move.
Thibaud Verlinden is set to leave Beerschot to join a German club. The specific club name has not been disclosed. Last summer, FC Nürnberg showed interest in him. Verlinden has been a key player for Beerschot this season with 3 goals and 7 assists in 24 matches. Just a week ago, Verlinden expressed his desire to finish the season with Beerschot, but acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the transfer market.
Thibaud Verlinden, recognized as the best player at Beerschot, is likely attracting interest from several clubs. Despite the ongoing speculation about a potential winter transfer, Verlinden mentioned in an interview with Gazet van Antwerpen that there is currently nothing concrete and he plans to complete the season with Beerschot. However, he acknowledged a significant chance of leaving in the summer, particularly if Beerschot is relegated to the Challenger Pro League. Verlinden conveyed his desire to remain at the highest level and avoid playing in Belgium's second division.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who used to coach KAA Gent, recommended Thibaud Verlinden as a possible new player for the club during the 'Extra Time' show. Vanhaezebrouck indicated that if KAA Gent signed Verlinden, he would probably have regular playing time. On the other hand, Frank Boeckx raised concerns about the high level of competition within the team. Analysts concurred that Verlinden should focus on further establishing himself in the Jupiler Pro League before contemplating a move abroad, especially since his previous attempt outside Belgium was unsuccessful.
