He had become a part of St Mirren on a two-year contract in May, following the conclusion of his contract with Fleetwood Town. Rooney participated in 10 matches for St Mirren across all competitions, which included UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. The club announced that they would refrain from making any further comments on the issue.
