Raphaël Varane Transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid

Raphaël Varane has left Manchester United and is free to join any club of his choice. He has not ruled out a return to Madrid and has said that he may end his career either in Madrid, Manchester, or Lens. He is currently at the end of his contract and is taking time to consider his options.

Raphael Varane has officially announced that he will depart Man Utd this summer upon the expiration of his contract. The French defender was initially tied down until 2025 when he signed, but it was revealed earlier this year that Varane's guaranteed deal only actually runs until this summer. Given the 31-year-old's fitness issues, Man Utd were unwilling to trigger their one-year extension in his contract and decided against offering him a new deal on reduced terms. Varane himself had previously stated that he would end his career at either RC Lens, Real Madrid, or Man Utd.

90min understands Varane has interest from Saudi Arabia, but the Frenchman has previously admitted he hopes to retire on the books of one of his former clubs which, now that he is departing United, leaves Lens and Real Madrid as possible options. Madrid do want a new centre-back this summer but are not believed to be considering re-signing Varane, meaning the 31-year-old will have to re-join Lens if he is to stay true to his claim that he will not join another club.

The entourage of Raphael Varane have held informal talks with Real Madrid over a return to the Santiago Bernabeu, but Los Blancos do not appear to be interested in a reunion. Varane will leave Man Utd when his contract expires this summer.
