Pepe Reina: Villarreal Contract Extension

Pepe Reina has confirmed on his social networks his departure from Villarreal, the club with which his contract ends on the 30th, thus ending his second stage at the Castellón club, to which he arrived two years ago. The goalkeeper hoped to continue for another season as a second goalkeeper, but the club and coach Marcelino have finally decided that he will not continue at the club. Reina explained that he maintains his idea of continuing to play for another year and thanked the deceased José Manuel Llaneza and the Roig, father and son, the second opportunity they have given him to play at the club.

Pepe Reina, at 41 years old, is the substitute for Filip Jorgensen at Villarreal, but it is still not certain if he will stay. His contract was due to expire in June 2023, but the club, in agreement with the goalkeeper, activated the option to extend it for another year, so the Spaniard remained for another season in Spain. However, according to 'Relevo', there is still no news about the future of the former Milan and Napoli player. The goalkeeper has no intention of retiring, so he is waiting for the Yellow Submarine, but if things do not change in the coming weeks, he will become a free agent and look for a new destination. Reina has played 11 times this season, including once in LaLiga, 7 times in the Europa League and 3 times in the Copa del Rey. In his career, he has won a World Cup and 2 European Championships with Spain, a Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich, an Italian Cup with Napoli and, with Liverpool, a European Super Cup, an FA Cup, a Carabao Cup and a Community Shield.
