Pedri Transfer from FC Barcelona to Manchester City
Manchester City are reportedly planning to 'break the market' with a British record-shattering offer for Barcelona star Pedri in the summer. A report from Fichajes suggests the Cityzens are ready to go all in for Pedri with a €200million (£171.5m) offer for the midfielder. This would shatter the British transfer record, currently held by Chelsea's £115million move for Moises Caicedo in 2023.
Manchester City are reportedly ready to shift their focus from Florian Wirtz in order to better position themselves for a potential summer acquisition of Pedri, for whom they are said to be willing to spend €200 million. The club, along with manager Pep Guardiola, considers Pedri as the player capable of elevating the first team’s midfield performance. The 22-year-old is widely regarded as one of the top performers in Europe this season. Despite signing a new contract with Barcelona a few months ago, Pedri has reportedly expressed his intention to remain in the Catalan capital. Barcelona, despite their financial challenges, are believed to be reluctant to enter negotiations with any club regarding Pedri's transfer.
Manchester City showed interest in signing Pedri as a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. However, Barcelona have deemed Pedri untouchable and will not sell him under any circumstances. Barcelona recently extended Pedri's contract for five years, which diminishes their obligation to sell the player despite financial issues.
Manchester City is reportedly interested in acquiring Pedri as a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, should the latter leave Etihad Stadium in the summer. According to the English press, Manchester City has a budget of 100 million euros for this transfer. However, it was reported that Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has no intention of allowing Pedri to leave unless the player himself requests a transfer. Pedri, who recently signed a new contract with Barcelona in January valid until the summer of 2030, has a release clause of one billion euros. This season, he played in 44 games for Barcelona, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
Manchester City are reportedly gearing up to make a bid for Pedri during the summer transfer window. According to reports from the Spanish media, Man City have expressed interest in Pedri and are prepared to make a substantial offer for the Spain international midfielder. Pep Guardiola is believed to view Pedri as an ideal fit to maintain his style of play at the Etihad. Nonetheless, Pedri is understood to be content and settled at Barcelona, and the club reportedly has no plans to let go of one of its most valuable talents, deeming him untransferable.
