Paul Akouokou has been excluded from Lyon's squad. The club, in agreement with coach Pierre Sage and sporting director David Friio, decided to remove players they no longer need due to financial problems. Akouokou and three other players have been told to find a new club.

Paul Akouakou, aged 26, has not convinced with his performance at Olympique Lyonnais. With 9 appearances for 318 minutes disputed with the Gones, he has not entered the field since February 23 against FC Metz. His transfer has been seen as a mistake costing 3 million euros for the Lyonnais. This is also troubling his former club, Real Betis Balompié, who are in financial difficulties and were hoping to gain from a resale of the player.
