Southampton Football Club has announced the signing of young midfielder Mateus Fernandes from Sporting CP. The 20-year-old has signed a 5-year contract. Fernandes joined Sporting's youth academy from Olhanense in 2016. He regularly played for Sporting's B team in the Portuguese third division from the age of 17 and represented Portugal internationally from Under-18 to Under-21. Last season, he was on loan at Estoril, making 28 appearances in the Primeira Liga and helping the club reach its first cup final in 80 years.
