Manprit Sarkaria  leaving Sturm Graz?

After months of uncertainty, Manprit Sarkaria is transferring to the Chinese Super League club Shenzhen Peng City. He shared an emotional farewell on Instagram, where he expressed gratitude to the Sturm Graz community. He clarified that he had wanted to stay and represent Sturm Graz in the Champions League, but had been informed at the start of the season that he was no longer part of the club's plans. Sarkaria spent three and a half successful years at the club, during which he won the second ÖFB-Cup title and the league title in the previous season.

Manprit Sarkaria, a 28-year-old striker, is transferring from SK Sturm to Shenzhen Peng City. The transfer was announced by Shenzhen Peng City on Instagram. This move marks Sarkaria's first experience playing abroad. Previously, he played for Wiener Austria and SK Sturm, the reigning double-winner. Shenzhen Peng City, established in 2017, recently secured their position in the Chinese top league by finishing 13th last season. The club is part of the City Football Group.

Manprit Sarkaria ist für Gespräche zwecks Transfer derzeit freigestellt (Manprit Sarkaria is currently released for transfer talks).

Manprit Sarkaria had expressed a desire to leave Sturm Graz during the past summer, but no transfer materialized. At that time, the sports director, Andreas Schicker, had not included Sarkaria in his plans, assigning him to the second team in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. Following the departure of Schicker and Christian Ilzer to Hoffenheim, there appeared to be a possibility for Sarkaria to rejoin the first team, though this was limited to just one appearance in the Bundesliga squad. The new club management, under the leadership of Neo sports director Michael Parensen, indicated to Sarkaria the possibility of a winter transfer. His contract with Sturm Graz is set to expire in the summer, suggesting he might leave by then.

Manprit Sarkaria made an attempt to depart from Sturm Graz during the summer transfer window, however, the transfer did not come to fruition. Consequently, he found himself playing for Sturm II as part of the squad planning under Andreas Schicker. Following the exits of Schicker and head coach Christian Ilzer to Hoffenheim, Jürgen Sümel stepped in as the interim coach, potentially offering Sarkaria a chance to rejoin the first team. His contract with Sturm Graz is valid until the summer of 2025.
