Lovre Kalinić leaving Hajduk Split?
Lovre Kalinić, the captain and goalkeeper of Hajduk Split, might be on his way back to Belgium as KAA Gent has expressed interest in his return. According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Gent is contemplating bringing Kalinić back because Daniel Schmidt has moved to Japan, leaving the second goalkeeper position open. Kalinić's familiarity with the club and league could facilitate a smooth integration. His contract with Hajduk is set to expire this summer, which likely won't create significant hurdles for the transfer. Discussions have commenced with Kalinić and Tom Vandenberghe, with one of them expected to join Gent. However, there is uncertainty about Kalinić's acceptance of the transfer, as there is no assurance that he will be the first-choice goalkeeper.
KAA Gent is in talks with Lovre Kalinic as an option to replace Daniel Schmidt. Kalinic has previously played for KAA Gent between 2017 and 2019 before transferring to Aston Villa for six million euros. He is currently under contract with Hajduk Split and has played four matches this season.
Lovre Kalinić, captain of Hajduk, is in the last six months of his contract. There were previous discussions about a new contract under president Lukša Jakobušić, but these have stalled. He has recently retired from the national team and may leave Hajduk if no new agreement is reached.
Contract expiring at the end of the season. If not sold in the winter transfer window or contract not extended, he will be able to leave for free next summer.
Lovre Kalinić has entered the final year of his contract with Hajduk Split. He can negotiate with potential new clubs during the mid-season transfer window.
Lovre Kalinić has been identified by the president as one of the biggest disciplinary problems in the Hajduk Split locker room, and there was an intention to remove him from the club to cut costs.
Hajduk Split might want to sell Lovre Kalinić to save on costs as he is not a first-team player but has a first-team contract.
