Borussia Mönchengladbach is actively trying to retain him by extending his contract beyond June 2026. The 28-year-old defender, who has become an integral part of Gladbach's strong defensive duo alongside Nico Elvedi, is drawing attention from top Bundesliga clubs, including FC Bayern, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt, as well as teams from England, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. Gladbach's CEO, Roland Virkus, stressed that securing an extension of Itakura's contract is a priority, although he acknowledged that without a new agreement, the club would need to make a decision by the end of the current contract in June 2026.
