Now, however, Strootman himself has confirmed it: "Two days ago Gilardino told me that my contract will not be renewed - the former PSV revealed to Radio Serie A - My journey at Genoa will end here".

The Dutch midfielder, who has been a significant contributor to the Rossoblù cause in this Serie A season, is not negotiating a renewal and will say goodbye at the end of the season. With 75 appearances in Genoa's jersey, 34-year-old Strootman will have to decide whether to return to his homeland or perhaps embark on a new project in Italy. But not in Genoa: there are still three matchdays left in the league and then the two parties will say goodbye.
