Josip Brekalo was set to leave Fiorentina and go on a one-year loan to Getafe, with an option for Getafe to purchase him. Brekalo would have signed a three-year contract with the Madrid club. However, the deal fell through at the last moment because Getafe did not want to cover more than 60% of Brekalo's salary, which amounts to around two million euros annually.
