The new Barca manager Hansi Flick has asked the club to retain Felix's services for the coming season, but doing so is complicated by the club's financial struggles and Atletico's desire to recover some of the €126m they paid to sign him from Benfica in 2019.

Barcelona's interest in Greenwood may be related to the club's intention to let João Félix go, as reported by the Spanish press, since the players occupy similar positions on the field. The Portuguese player, on loan from Atlético Madrid, has lost his place in the starting lineup at this end of the season.
