This transfer represents Slimani's third consecutive winter move to a Belgian club, following previous spells at Anderlecht and KV Mechelen. During his time at Anderlecht, he scored nine goals in sixteen matches, although his impact was less significant at KV Mechelen, where he netted three goals in thirteen appearances. Westerlo, in search of a replacement for the departed Lucas Stassin, views Slimani as a pivotal player in their effort to retain their league status, alongside their recent acquisition, Isa Sakamoto.
