Iñaki Peña: FC Barcelona Contract Extension
Gabriel Sansa from 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that FC Barcelona's management plans to extend Iñaki Peña's contract, which is currently valid until June 30, 2026. The coaching staff is in favor of this decision, although Hans-Dieter Flick is said to distance himself from contractual matters, as do the sporting director Deco and other officials. The club acknowledges some criticism of Peña, but they are reportedly satisfied with his performance. Peña, a 25-year-old goalkeeper, is not currently considering a change of environment, suggesting that unless there is a sudden turn of events, new contract signatures can be anticipated. However, it is noted that if Ter Stegen returns to full fitness, Peña's stance might change.
Hansi Flick suggested that Iñaki Pena, who is usually the backup for Marc-André Ter Stegen, could take on the role of the first-choice goalkeeper for the entire season due to Ter Stegen's injury.
Iñaki Peña, currently the second goalkeeper at Barcelona, is set to be in the goal for the upcoming matches. Hansi Flick confirmed his trust in Peña's abilities during a press conference.
Iñaki Peña is expected to be chosen by Barcelona to cover for Ter Stegen's injury until at least January. Despite not being the first-choice goalkeeper, his previous performances, including a loan spell at Galatasaray, have shown his abilities. Deco, the club's sporting director, blocked a move for Iñaki Peña this summer despite interest from several La Liga clubs.
