River Plate is showing renewed interest in pursuing negotiations for Valentín Gómez, a defender they had previously aimed to secure in the last transfer window. The initial deal was disrupted following a change in River's coaching staff from Martín Demichelis to Marcelo Gallardo, coupled with the discovery of a meniscus issue in Gómez's left knee. The transfer was originally supposed to be managed by the City Group, which planned to buy Gómez and subsequently loan him to River Plate. Vélez's president, Fabián Berlanga, mentioned that River has not yet reestablished contact but noted that they would need to pay more than before due to Gómez's improved performance. The current release clause is set at 10 million euros net.

Valentin Gomez expressed his desire to join River Plate to advance his career. He clarified that his knee injury from 2021 is minor and does not require surgery. However, the president of Vélez, Fabian Berlanga, stated that Gomez will not be transferred to River Plate under any circumstances.
