It was mentioned that Ten Hag was particularly fond of the English striker, who eventually remained at Brighton & Hove Albion. Ten Hag had personally urged the management to consider a transfer for the now 33-year-old forward, who had previously been part of United's youth academy and first team from 2008 to 2014. However, due to the pressure on Ten Hag's position, United decided not to act on his transfer requests. Consequently, Welbeck opted to extend his expiring contract with Brighton.
