Sunderland is reportedly making a serious attempt to acquire English striker Chuba Akpom, as reported by Foot Mercato. Akpom, who is currently with Ajax, might be in his final weeks at the club since he is not a regular starter under coach Francesco Farioli. Although there has been interest from Ligue 1 clubs Lille OSC and RC Lens, they have not pursued any further, which provides Sunderland with an opportunity. Sunderland, currently fourth in the Championship, is determined to advance to the Premier League and views Akpom, who scored seven goals and provided one assist in 29 appearances for Ajax, as a valuable addition. Ajax purchased Akpom from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023 for over twelve million euros, following his prolific season scoring 28 goals in the Championship.
