French outlet Foot Mercato reported that the English striker is open to a transfer to Ligue 1 because he desires to play in his preferred position as a striker, rather than being used as an attacking midfielder or left winger at Ajax. Rennes, along with other French clubs such as RC Lens, Nice, Nantes, Saint-Etienne, and Lille, has been mentioned as a possible club for Akpom. He joined Ajax from Middlesbrough for 12.3 million in the summer of 2023 and has a contract until 2028. Akpom's performance this season includes 11 goals and 3 assists in 25 Eredivisie matches.
