Athanasios Androutsos leaving Olympiakos Piraeus?
OFI Crete announced the signing of Thanasis Androutsos from Olympiacos. The Greek midfielder signed a contract until the summer of 2026. The 27-year-old international, born in Athens on May 6, 1997, has won the Greek championship three times (2017, 2021, 2022) and made 122 appearances in domestic and European competitions with his former team. He also played for Atromitos (31 appearances) and in the first half of 2024 for the German club Osnabruck (13 appearances).
Thanasis Androutsos is set to join OFI Crete. The Greek player will arrive in Heraklion, Crete, at 8:30 in the morning on Monday, January 20, to undergo the necessary medical examinations. If everything goes well, he will sign a contract that will keep him with the Cretans until the summer of 2026. Androutsos has been a member of Olympiacos throughout his career, with 121 appearances for the club, and has been on loan to Atromitos and Osnabrück.
Thanasis Androutsos is nearing the completion of his transfer to OFI Crete, as the club from Heraklion is reportedly in advanced discussions with Olympiacos for his acquisition. It has been noted that Androutsos is not part of coach José Luis Mendilibar's plans. Although Androutsos was initially not included in the team this season, he eventually returned to training with Olympiacos and even made one appearance in the Stoiximan Super League. OFI Crete considers Androutsos a versatile player who can cover multiple positions, with the primary intention of utilizing him as a midfielder. Further developments are anticipated in the coming days.
Thanasis Androutsos, who was loaned to Osnabruck last January, is looking for a new club as his contract with Olympiacos runs until 2026 and there is no B team for him to play in.
